You'll probably make higher peak hp but you'll loose a lot of low end torque. You won't break anything.

Q here....since when backpressure is a "good thing"?.....Shouldn't it be.....if you need backpressure you have a bad tune?......[sm=insomnia.gif]

You are pretty much the onlyu one in this thread that has made an intelligent statement. Running open long tube headers will not break anything, it won't burn up valves and it won't give you too litle "back pressure". What it will do is shift your HP and TQ curves higher in the rpm range and possibly cost some TQ overall. If you don't have a pretty radical engine with a decent size cam open headers will sound dumb and not give any more power.

One thing that I can add to this is companies spend a lot of money on researching exhaust designs for horsepower and torque. As far as not having enough backpressure not burning up valves, thats wrong. Our combustion chambers rely on scavenging to cool temperatures. If it gets too hot in the combustion chamber from lack of scavenging you will start to experience what we all know as preignition, and a hefty amount of hydrocarbon build up. It's even possible to screw up your backpressure from having your tailpipes in such a position that when the air traveling up and over your car comes down by your back bumper, it can actually be forced up into the exhaust system making it difficult to clear the cc of burned gases. And besides I ran dumps on my notch for a day and it gave me nothing but a headache.
