RE: 1979 mustang
hey man 79's are pisssy hold onto it and just treat it right. Maybe give it a fresh coat a deck/speakers and just rod it around for some *****. I got some rear window louvers u can put on the backfor like 80 and trust me it gives it an amazing lift just like that!

the only swap should be the engine. I believe 79 had what 145hp?

+1 on leaving the front end the way it is. If anything to "dress it up" get some headlight covers, itll look pretty mean. My first car was a '79 so I'm kinda fond of em.
As for the engine swap statement, dont bother with the 351, what advantage you had because of weight will be taken away from that heavy *** brick you wanna put in there.
And yes the '79's did only have 149 HP. But thats because it had single 2.25" exhaust and a 2bbl carb. A simple exhaust swap off of a later model or simply headers,H-pipe and a flowmaster cat back 2.5" will make the car feel like a completely different animal, from that alone youll pick up 30+ ponies. And if you put a nice 4bbl intake and a 600cfm vacuum secondary carb on there itll be even faster, then a nice flat tappet cam even faster yet. When I had mine, I had it weighed with me in it, 2500lbs. I was beating cars that shouldve been faster than me but werent because of the weight, one of the cars I raced was a '86 capri RS that had a mild 351w in it, I took by a fender, light after light. The guy was pretty disappointed with his car to say the least after he found out what little I had done to the motor and I had the stock gear (3.08).
Anyway, it is your car, but we 4-eyed guys would be kinda saddened if you changed out the front end. Be unique, keep it the way it is. Liek I said, at most get some headlight covers and itll look mean. LUND makes some really nice ones for it.
If you need some advice or tips on building your '79 PM me, there are a few things to look out for on the 79-82 models.
