Have over 100k on mine and it doesn;t burn or leak any oil. it used to leak from the low oil sensor but i took care of that

120,000...No leaks or burning. I replaced the rear main seal about 2,000 miles ago cause I had a slight leak.

The 88 I had about 5 years ago. 1 quart every 1000km's. The thing that really surprised me there was it's emissions test numbers were very low and it was a strong stocker, 99 mph in the quarter. All that with 280,000kms.

The 93 coupe I have now seems like it was well cared for and it consumes less than I can notice on the stick. I checked it before it's drain interval at 3000m or 5000km and it's still reading full.
This impresses me too since it's 3.73 geared so it's reving high on the highway.

I believe the cast pistons help with reduced oil consumption.

Since you've warmed them up, I guess I'll share my observation. I'll probably get flamed but...bring it. In my experience as a motorcycle mechanic, and owner of many vehicles, I've observed that motors often run stronger when they use a little oil past the rings...so long as they have normal compression. Your wondering if I'm retarded or crazy. Fair enough. I've rebuilt a number of motorcycle engines (including a few of my own), and always observed that the bikes seemed faster before being re-ringed. My own bikes were the best subjects. All three bikes used at least a quart of oil per 1k. They all felt just a little faster than equivalent stock bikes before the rebuild, to the point that I wonderedif at least one of them was not stock. After re-ringing the motors, hitting the cylinders with a bottle hone and achieving perfect crosshatching, and following sensible break-in procedure...all three bikes felt slightly slower. All bikesstopped using oil after the overhaul, and after break-in, had roughly the same compression as before...yet felt slower. Mind you, these bikes all had great compression before the rebuilds...they just burned oil. My 5.0 burns a quart per 1k miles through the stock motor, yet has 155-165 lbs of cranking compression. When I first drove the car, after driving a bunch of other stock Mustangs, it felt a good bit faster than all the rest. Whenthree mechanics have driven it (all of whom drive 5.0s, believe it or not, and one of which specializes in 5.0s), they all commented in various ways that it's "a strong one."

My explanation for this is that on motors with looser ring seals, there is less drag between the piston rings and cylinder walls...as with low tension rings. Take it for what it's worth.

By the way, JFsram, my smog/emissions numbers also come up low.
