Default tps problem!

So I was checking my tps today and its all messed up. with the key on and engine off it should read .98-1.0 volts (correct me if im wrong) well it was more like 2.0volts. And when I disconnect it from the throttle body it read the same thing. I swapped in a tps from my buddies car and it read the same thing. When we checked in on my buddies car it read perfect and when it was disconnected from the throttle body it read like 0.47v and went up when you manually turned the tps. So whats the problem. Im really confused on this one. thanks

the input 5v comes through the red wire, the black wire is ground, and the green wire is supposed to be the signal. if your swapping a known good TPS in, and you are still getting the same results, i dunno... you got a ghost.

the weird thing is I tested it a couple of weeks ago and it was reading .7v so I bumped it up to .99 and it was fine. So Im kinda confused on why it all of a sudden did this. all three wires go directly to the computer from the tps right?

only the green wire goes TO the computer. the red wire comes IN from the computer.
i guess trace the green wire, it could be shorting somewhere.

Homeboy matt here knows what he's talkin about. The sensor is a 3 wire; 1 5v reference, 1 signal, and one ground. If you are getting bad readings at the tps it could be many things. First check to make sure the 5v from the computer is correct. Then make sure you aren't dropping voltage on the ground. Finally check your signal. You are best off checking your signal wire with an oscilloscope. If you are getting a funny voltqage out of the tps on the signal wire, it can not be the computer if your 5v reference is correct. It is probably something stupid. Check and make sure your ground is good and not dropping voltage. That can be the source of a lot of annoying problems. It sounds to me like you have a ground or signal problem if you replaced it with a known good part and got the same result,
