my first powershift!

RE: my first powershift!
Oh I dunno the exact specs OB, I do know that the newer year T5 the more desireable it is. Either way, theirs not a big difference between the years - however Im sure their is a difference. The "beefed up" t5 would be the world class version but I don't believe those came stock in any Mustang - and I think those were rated at 330+

RE: my first powershift!
A stock T-5 will handle 500=hp with slicks, my friend has a 331 stroker and supercharger, with slicks and a bunch more mods, but still has the stock t-5 trans. He launchs a 6k with slicks and the stock t-5 hasnt gone out, also when he races he powershifts, hes had that setup for like 4yrs, and still hasnt broke, So im not really worried about breaking the transmission, OB is right,
87,88, and some of 89 trans were weaker that 89-93 trans, due to a different type of material use. heres a link

Hey 90stangfan, where are you located, and who do you know with that set-up. It sounds just like my buddy Steve. His is white with a red stripe going all the way around. It is a 1988 Hatch GT with a 331 stroker and a Vortech SC, he has a bunch of other mods as well, and is in the 500's HP somewhere. Just wondering if we are talking about the same guy. It is true though, He runs 10.60's at LACR!!! Through the stock T-5, with slicks.

RE: my first powershift!
If your clutch is stock, that will usually start slipping before your tranny will blow. Thats one of the reasons i'm afraid to get a better grip clutch. Id rather have my clutch slip when i launch then blow my tranny. As for powershifting, from what i hear a good short throw shifter will greatly reduce the risk of damaging anything when you powershift, as dan said. I've heard lots of good things about Pro5.0 and Steeda Tri Ax's.
