my first powershift!
Ok so after talking to you guys about it, i had to try it.....and it was definatly cool! i was surprised at how much it sucked me back into my seat going 1st to 2nd, and it really broke the back end loose....going 2nd to 3rd it chirped a bit, and just as i was about to shift to 4th i was outta room.....just wanted to share this with anyone that cares.....
i try not to think about how bad it is for my car....

Yeah, your stock T-5... I dont know what people talk about when they say that they don't like it. A stock T-5 in a 87 ^ modle mustang are very strong. You know how they are rated for a max HP and TQ rating of about 300, well I know someone who puts well over 500HP through his, runs 10's... Stock 88 T-5. If that's not strength, I dont know what is.

The trans can handle more than what people think as long as it is maintained properly and not abused.Powershifting is'nt recommended though not uncommon. Some people are lucky and some are not... Good luck!
P.S. I quit powershifting when i blew apart my last tranny(#5) lol.
By the way,, i dont let off the gas when i shift either and maybe thats why.

Powershifting on a tranny is usually safe as long as you don't miss / grind a gear and aren't running way over what the tranny can handle torque wise. A stock T5 is around 300ish tq holding, now - you can make 500 lbs of torque and not hurt the tranny if the tires break loose and you can't get that 500 tq to the ground. On top of that, powershifting "shocks" the tranny harder, if your engine puts out 300 tq and you dump the clutch at 6k and run slicks you may actually be putting 500 lbs of tq to the tranny for that brief instant - so really its a crap shoot. Running regular street tires its gonna be hard to hurt a t5 no matter how much power if your shifting properly - but its really a crapshoot.
BTW - your not racing if your not powershifting [8D]
