Default headers

when i bought this car, it had mac unequal shortys on it, and i must say, they look terrible. it's almost a chamoflage(sp?) look of rust and what appears to be white paint. also they were installed with locking header bolts, with the clips that hold them still. well, those things are as bad as the headers. this summer i wanna clean that up, without having to buy new headers.

what would you suggest i do about this problem? i'm gonna get a new set of header bolts, but can the headers be cleaned up and painted, maybe even chromed? or am i wasting my time.

i said i dont wanna buy new ones, these are fine. i just wanna clean them up, and i'm not sure how to approch it, because headers reach 800* and i don't know of a paint that will withstand that.

what about chrome dipping?

Bead blast and powder coating maybe? And would block paint hold up on headers? I dunno anyone who's tried, so I really have no idea if it would work cuz I have no idea what it's rated for.

Why not just get some header paint with ceramic from Autozone, wirebrush your headers, clean your headers, backe the oil off them, while wearing gloves hange them on hangers and then coat them (the can says 3 times, I suggest 6 coatings, the last being the thickest allowing 10 minutes in between each one.) Then back them in the over for the specified amount of time.

I did this and it came out perfect, they looked brand spankin new and the paint doesnt smoke, they are a little cooler because of the ceramic and they look simply awesome.

$5 bux for the paint
$5 bux for Wire wheels
$1 de-oiling soap
$0.10 cents in electricity

You will love the results.
