Default starting problem

ok, lately my car has been giving me starting problems. when the car has been sitting, say overnight, and i go out in the morning to fire it up, it starts right away, then it chugs out and dies. it will stay running with the tinyest bit of throttle, and after 10 or so seconds of giving it throttle, it will stay running.

i don't think it's IAC related, because the car idle's perfect once its running right. after the initial chugging and bogging, its fine. its almost like a carbed motor with a manual choke that is stuck closed.

i should note that i have spark plug wire issues, one cylinder that i know of has a melted wire, causing it to misfire under certain load conditions, but i dont hear or feel the misfire unless it's under load.

Wow - I was going to post the exact issue with my 89 LX. I cleaned my IAC valve and it also runs/starts perfect after the first 10 seconds. I have to tap the throttle upon initial startup and all is fine all day then. Look forward to replies.

i also think i have a blowby issue at WOT, i was thinking maybe the plugs were getting fouled out from it, but they look as if i'm running rich, not burning oil.

Maybe you're just running pig rich. That would cause the idle issue and it can foul your plugs. Or then again, maybe your plugs have been fouled and that's what's causing the idle problem. Either way, if you have fouled plugs then swap them out with some new one and for the love of god fix that bad wire!

I don't think blowby is going to cause that issue. That would cause other problems.

My car did this, then I cleaned the EGR and the IAC, reset base idle adjust TPS and it went away.
