The biggest thing to remember is what you pay for is what you get... dont get me wrong you can make horsepower somtimes with junkyard part, when it comes to body work and paint, its all about knowledge, skill at using that knowledge, and high quality paint and parts...

im not satisfied with my $1700 job. just make sure to look at other cars they have done because its not even about the price, its about the talent and perfection of the painter. $2500 sounds good, in my area a GOOD paintjob is $3000. comeplete interior and engine out of the car your talking $9000+

i payed 5500 for my paint job... my standards on paint is WAY higher than anyone else i know, everyone that looked at my car (appraisors, 2 insurance companys) both said it was better quality than 90% of the cars they look at, i was happy with it but there was 1 or 2 little defects (light swirl mark on the fender from the buffer and one on the roof)

Hey. Autopack is covering most of my job with $3100 bucks canadian. I have an old school Hot rodder painting my car and I'm slapping down a grand of my own money. You shouldn't worry about paying to much cause generally the more you pay... the more time and effort a shops gonna put into your ride.

Im a painter and I would do a paint job thats the same color but no cut in (jambs, underhood, etc) for $2500...wouldnt need to be jambed if the same color and this car would need to be a really straight car. As for black...yeh it needs to be striaght...good thing about black is the black base covers really well so less is need compare to say white or yellow. If you wanted jambs done, a lot of dings removed, dents, fixin old rock chip infested bumpers...id want $5500+. Its labor intensive to get a car to look good. Macco just d/a and does a quick red scuff and shoot deal. A real painter has to pull trim off, some cars windows removed..de chip hood, fender, bumpers etc. If you wanna save $ on materials have them shoot the PPG Omni line...I like dupont chroma base paint but am gonna use omni if I have to pay for it.

personally if i were doing it i would expect no less than $6,000 for a decent paint job, and $10,000 for a show quality job. I know what kind of time goes into making a perfect paint job and in my opinion a $2,500 dollar paint job is crap. Even if you do all the body work yourself, there are probably things the painter will have to fix unless you are a body pro yourself.
