Track Times!

Track Times!
Hey everyone, I have a completely stock 1991 GT 5.0, and before I got my new tires I ran a best of 16.4 at 84MPH at LACR in Palmdale, CA... Last night I took my car again after I got my new Remington tires, Still with NOTHING done accept for a fram delete, I ran a best of 15.631 @ 88.26MPH. I am getting 2.37 60ft times, is this acceptable for a completely stock 1991 5.0... I have read that at sea level stock they are supposed to run 15.5, so I thought a 15.6 at 2800ft above was pretty good. Also, I am planning on modding it and I was wondering what I should do first. I was thinking about getting some 4.10's first, but then again I want to do the exhaust as well. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

^^ good advice. And, no 2.3xx is not a good 60' ... you should be able to get down to at least 2.2 and with descent street tires and practice be able to get a 2.1 or better. Remember .1 off your 60' will get you .2 off your e.t. so theirs alotta time to be made up there. Gears help with that as well.

OK I will try for a 2.1, but I wasn't dissapointed by a 2.3 in a stock 91 GT as LACR! Which has got to be one of the toughest tracks in the nation. I think it depends on what I get for x-mas whether I go for gears or exhaust, but both are on my list of things to do. And should I go ahead and get the clutch kit for my rear while i'm there, or just leave it alone. It works fine, but I dont want to have to tear it back apart if the posi goes out. Any suggestions?

if you do the gear change, I would go with 3.73's and also get a full rear end rebuild kit with all new bearings for the differential and axles and have the posi rebuilt while you've got it opened up for the gear change. a full gear install kit with all the bearings from Ratech is about $100 and the posi rebuild kit is about $50 and it's money well spent when you change the gears out. your times are right in the range they should be for a stock car at that altitude also. bone stock my '88 AOD ran 15.40's at my track which is only 129 ft in elevation here in VA.

I know about LACR, covered with desert dust, no air. You where most probably racing in about a 4000' air density so I think the car is doing well considering that you are racing in a sh**hole. All the dust all over the starting will kill any 60' time anyway. I agree, get the short time down and the whole thing gets better.
