Default Flowmaster Install help

Hey I am installing a flowmaster catback on my car right now, and I have run into a problem. I got the passenger side on ok (after chopping a couple of inches off of it to make it fit[:@]) but I can't get the drivers side on...there is a flat peice of metal bent down from the fuel tank that is in the way. It is bent up on the other side but it is directly in the way on this side

Anybody know what this is for? I was just going to hack it off because it doesn't seem to have a purpose but I don't want to screw anything up, has anybody else ever had this problem?

This is going on my 94 gt btw

thanks

Kev
