331 OR 347

RE: 331 OR 347
Yeah i was reading that the 347 have more oil that blows by than the 331 and also was going to super charge at some point down the line. When i redo the motor will i have to do a new wiring harness and computer and all that? 331 will i be able to beat on it with being more reliable to a point?

RE: 331 OR 347
as long as you get the 347 setup with the wrist pins not crossing into the oil ring you should be using any oil. that was the whole problem.
still though, i think i'd take a 331 jsut as i would take a 408 over a 427. from all that i hear they just seem to be better combinations.

RE: 331 OR 347
my 347 doesnt really use any oil but then again i paid for the extra time and parts for it too! gettin 15mpg while beating the hell outta it right now, guess i need to drive it "easy" and see what kinda mpg it gets with the KB prolly 0mpg

RE: 331 OR 347
I've got crane gold race rockers on mine right now and it doesn't tick at all. Go 347, the oil burn issue is gone now with the shorter rod which eliminates interference with the oil ring. Of course rod angularity and piston speed don't help on durability of a 347, but to me whether I get 80,000 or 120,000 miles out of my stroker doesn't matter. By that time I'll already be building another one for more power n e ways. If you're going to do it, go all out. I actually have an eagle set up with the 5.4 inch rods that interfere with the oil rings and have yet to have any serious oil burning problems. We'll see.

its a fact that u can get more miles out of a 331 than a 347 b/c the 347 pistons move more per crank rotation at same rpm b/c of the rod length and stroke vs the 331.

RE: 331 OR 347
I am currently building a forged 347 stroker with the short (5.315") rods and I don't fore see any problems with it versus going with a 331. Truth be known, as hard as I am going to beat on it, if I get 15,000 miles out of it , I will be satisfied. As soon as the damm UPS guy gets here with my balancer and flexplate, SFI approved,I can have my rotating assembly balanced and start the assembly process.
