New lifters with new cam?
I just got a E303 cam and a mass air package for my '88 GT. I read on the cam box it says to install new lifters with the cam. I'm wondering, is that really necessary do you think? If so, should I install new push rods too? Engine has unknown mileage on it (had 140mph speedo in the car when I bought it), but I'd guess somewhere around 200k miles on it by now judging from the interior. It still runs great though! What do you guys recommend?

RE: New lifters with new cam?
with roller lifters like in your engine you do not need to use new lifters, however if your engine has over 85k miles on it its recomended that you install new lifters.
if the cam were a flat tappet cam than you would have to install new lifters. on flat tappet cams the cam lobe and lifter wear together, the same lifters must be used on the same lobe or damage can ocure.

If I had 200k on my motor...those stockers would be out like a deaf kid in musical chairs

Yeah if at 200k I would replace them. Although on my old 91, I had 125k and they were fine, I went 12.90's @ 109 with them

you know, you can break them down and rebuild them. we did that for every production remanufactured engine we shipped and not once can i remember having a come-back for lifter trouble. hell, in the 5 years i was there i can only think of a couple motors to ever come back for anything. one spun a cam bearing (weirdness) and the other someone forgot a rod nut (doh!)
