The fuel gauge on my 87 gt stuck pass full.It started working till the gas light came on, then I filled it up 5 gallons ofgasand got stuck on full again. What can it be? I couldn't find a answer on search.

Wow you must have the special edition with the 5 gal fuel tank. Is that the hybrid?

lol. yes, it's a hybrid. I just put around 5 gal. But the fuel gauge needlewhen pass full instead of around half a tank or less.

Yeah sometimes when I filled up my old 91 it would peg past full, but would eventually start working again. I think it used to do it on my buddy's 89 too. How long has it been there? Try driving it a little bit to see if it comes down, I know my 91 did it randomly but not very often.

I had the same problem, go drive down a really bumpy road, that is what fixed mine! (no joke)

i have the same problem with my 89. When it has about 2 or 3 gallons left, the lgiht comes on and the gauge goes down.. anyway how to fix this?

I would go ahead and replace the fuel pump. You should get a new sending unit and everything with it. The arm is probably stuck.

It would be an opportune time to replace the pump definitely, but the only thing you really need to replace is the sending unit

if it stays at full its usually the sender ground. try regrounding it (thats what makes the bumpy road trick work as well).

when the sender fails it usally reads 3/4 tank or less always.
