Crankshaft play- need advice

RE: Crankshaft play- need advice
Sounds like the mains are gone to me. Don't worry about running the car any more as it will only cause further damge. Just take it back to your mechanic, or do it yourself and take the engine out of that beast, flip it over on the stand and pull the crank out of it and look at the bearings that will be all chewed up, possibly stacked. If the are stacked, may need to have the block line bored. Most likely, you can get away with taking the crank to a machine shop, turn it if need be, and reinstall with new bearings.

if you have a factory harmonic balancer, make sure the rubber in it didnt split or come out, sometimes the rubber breaks and the outside part will shift and throw the balance off.

I had the same problem with the vibration and the funny ticking noise. The noise was the flywheel walking so much it was rubbing on the aluminum block plate that goes between the bellhousing and the block. My thrust bearing was worn out completely. All I did was out a new set of main and rod bearings in and kept on riding. Everything else looked great and was within tolerances.

yeah theres a half way decent chance you can just throw a set of bearings in there and be good. just amke sure you dont mix up your rod caps when your taking everything apart lol
