Default '84 H pipe on a '87

Will a H pipe with 4 cat's off a '84,work properly on a '87 with speed density?
I have a real nice used one, and I'm moving to Tn. and I may have to have the cat's on to pass there (I don't know if they'll even check). But once I put it on, I'm going to leave it on, as long as it works right. I have never had the stock exhaust on it, and I never checked into it before, other then I know it came with only 2 cat's originally, and 2 O.S.

The stock h pipe on an 87 should have 4 cats and 2 O2 sensors sounds like yours was changed at one time also I don't recall the 84's having an h-pipe that came in 86 I belive with true dual factory exhaust. SO it sounds like the pipe you have should work.

that pipe will work its not stock for 84 they had a y pipe that year and yes he is right you should have 4 cats as well stock. do you have cats on your car now? if you have just the two you will be fine to pass inspection dont even worry about swapping the pipes out

thats not the egr thats for the smog pump. the smog pump will have a hose that comes out the back the splits into two one hose goes to the back of both heads the other hose goes to the tube in the exhaust dont even worry about it just get it welded shut i passed emissions with the hose blocked off and no smog pump at all

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't know how Tennessee does their inspections, but in VA (I am assuming it would be similar) if you go to the right place they don't look under the car. When I get my inspection then check the light, horn, and that is about it. I would wait until I got there and ask arond, or try to find someone who knows where to go.

You know!.....I know that! [sm=headbang.gif] It's been soooooo long since I have had to think about emissions. Here in Mnthey don't check foranything! I bought it in Fl, and the PO did some strange things to the car! [sm=jawdrop.gif]It had white leather interior................Hecompletly spray painted the interior with semi gloss black paint!!!!!!! the dash, door panels, carpet, seats, roll bar pading, console, I had to wait till it was dark to see what the swiches were. It was alot worse than it sounds!I had to buy a complete different interior! Taken down to bare metal , and fixed anything there was, and repainted blue. Now I'm under the hood. I now need a IAC....just changed the TPS.
I will not buy from a pic, and their word again! I will always go and look for myself first!

Thanks for the info guys!
