Simple Green?
cover the distributor, coil, and airbox....and u should be ok, if u have a air compressor then spray off the electroical stuff after cleaning....for best results start car up for about a min (do not let it get up to temp) just get the motor a little bit warm (so all the dirt and grease etc will come off easier) and shut it off, spary ur cleaner on, rinse, and whenever ur done cleaning, start the motor up with the hood up and let the heat from the engine dry it. im tellin i would use the black magic engine cleaner its the best for the buck and wont fade any rubber components

I'm still having a little trouble locating the coil, you say its on the engine, mind if I ask where exactly, be specific and use small words please,I'm a little stupid today

Just stick a sealed bag over your intake filter and tape it so water cannot get in.
