Default Timing Advance?

I know on a carb engine you can adjust when the advance comes in by changing the spring in the distributer, but what I want to know is how do you change when the advance comes in on a efi car where the is no spring. Anyone know?

Need a computer + and aftermarket EEC (Tweecer, PMS, etc) to set it based on load, coolant temp, intake air temp, etc, etc......

That would be the "octane rod".....the metal strap on the left in the pic below....

Used to modify the base timing 2-3 degrees to "compensate" for octane.......it does not alter the total timing additions made by the system.

Aside the base timing setting, you would have to access the system logic and modify these......

Would this be similar to getting a dyno tune?
