Default Computer/Custom Chip Problem/Help

I have a SCT Eliminator Chip in my car with the A9L

It is going to get tuned in 2 weeks. Currently has a mail order chip from JMS so I can put a few miles on new motor.

Car runs fine and then all of a sudden my Air Fuel Ratio guage goes blank and the car runs like crap. If I shut it off and wait a minute and the restart it is fine.

Will the tune take car of that or is the Computer or the O2 sensors bad???

Thanks

You will want to start by pulling the codes from the ecu.

If the problem is in the ecu/tune, then waiting for the custom tune to be performed would be a good plan.
However, if the problem is a bad sensor, faulty wiring, or other hardware failure...
then putting the car on a dyno will be a waste of time and money.

Start by pulling codes, and take it from there...

Get the mail order chip the heck out of there...they are more than useless..they can be dangerous. The tune will optimize your A/F and timing curve...correcting drivability problems etc...DON'T go there expecting him to correct issues. Try to pull the codes and correct the issues before the tune so you can make the most of your dyno time perfecting your combo...not trying to fix something non performance orientated.

You want to do what that mail order chip does....bump your timing and do nothing else...that's what you 'mail order' chip is doing. If you can't actually SEE the A.F and how the maf siginal and other readings look..how can you honestly say you're selling a generalized chip that's going to improve anything...not even remotely close to possible or resonable.

Maybe some clarification is needed on the current mail order chip...

I had assumed that the chip had been setup for YOUR application. Probably with your MAF Transfer, Injector Sizes, etc.

If the chip is just the standard 'High Performance 5.0' kinda deal, then dman is right, it should be the first thing to go...
If it is a true custom chip, then assuming they know how to setup a tune, the chip shouldn't be an issue.
