hey, first let me tell you about my car:
I got an 89 vert, stroked to 347, trickflow heads and stage 1 cam, bbk 75mm TB and EGR, trickflow upper plenum with intake manifold, mac shorty headers and full exhaust, underdrive pullety, 7qt oil pan (moroso), t-56, and some other stuff that I cant remember right now.

by changing the cam on the motor, does that change the sound, because it sounds LOUD as hell compared to what it used to sound like.

I installed it last week and I finally got it to turn on last night, but there are some problems and I dont know where to begin.
First of all i think there is a vacuum leak somewhere and I have no idea where its comming from, the only thing I can think of is this junction of vacuum lines on the passenger side by the firewall, its got 4 vacuum lines merging into a rubber retainer and then 1 vacuum coming out of the top for the EGR. I dont know if it's supposed to look like that because when I took out the stock engine i didnt notice it.

another problem i am having is that its backfiring, i am thinking that this is related somehow to the mysterious vacuum leak, or my valaves arent correctly tightened down.

one more problem. as i shut off the engine I hear a whistling sound like as if pressure is being released from somewhere. I am thinking that maybe this has something to do with my fuel injectors not sitting properly, maybe an O ring is bad or something, It's loud as hell when the engine turns off. also i have a adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a gauge and the system is not holding pressure when the engine is turned off, is it supposed to?

ya it should hold pressure for a little while after its turned off.

vac leaks are common just keep looking

backfire could be tons of things

the heads, cam intake and exhaust will all make it louder

you need a better cam for that 347 anyway......... you have a 302 cam in there

the cam that came with the trickflow kit isnt good enough? damn man you know what a hassle it is to yank that engine out again to shange the freakin cam, I wish I would have known that before i installed it. What do you recommend?

motor doesn't need to come out to change the cam

does he actually NEED to do a cam swap? no

why not go with the tf stage 2? i've heard good things about that

originally I was going to do a 5.0 swap into my ranger, that would've been sweet except i needed to buy a mustang to gut it for parts to put into the ranger F-that! i rather hack up a ranger than a mustang. i wasnt aware at the time that trickflow made different stage cams i just purchased the whole upper assembly for like $2k. Then i said F-it let me stroke it, so i spent another $1.5k on parts and another $900 at the machine shop balancing and all that good stuff that machine shops do. I then went crazy and started buying crap for it. Now i have about $7k between engine and trans and a vacuum leak and valves that are driving me crazy. I got an extra 5.0 motor just sitting in my house with a t-5 in decent shape. if anyone wants to make me an offer on it and come pick it up let me know.

Miami, Fl engine is an 89 had no problems when it was in the car t-5 is in good shape too needs to be rebuilt but it worked fine when it was in the car.
