front control arm squeak
ORIGINAL: PRO50SC
How do you know it's the control arm? And for a beginner, I wouldn't recommend doing it.

ball joints are known to squeek when they sease up.

Control arms don't squeak. It's either the lower control arm bushing or ball joint.

I thing Grundy is trying to say seize up. Anyways that's correct and the next step is the ball joint breaks and you are sitting on your lower control arm.

Ok first off, the bushings on the front control arms will NEVER squeak. The steel collar that bolt goes goes through is locked into place as soon as the bolt is tightened. And the bushing does not have enough movement to squeak.
Your balljoint is bad. Easy way to check if its the balljoint, with the car running but not moving, move the steering wheel left to right about 1"-2" each way kinda quickly. If you hear the squeak while doing that its DEFINITELY the balljoint.
Foxbody balljoints will NEVER be loose. The way theyre designed is they recess inside of itself. If you look at the bottom of the balljoint (the grease cover portion) it should be semi-circular. That is the WEAR INDICATOR. If its almost flat, meaning not semi-circular, the balljoint is worn out and needs to be replaced.
Ford recommends that you replace the whole lower control arm. But press-in balljoints are available from aftermarket suppliers. I'd recommed that youreplace the whole arm, that way you get new bushings and all. Maybe some Ford racing ones with improved bushings.
