Default Ebrake Help

Been having trouble backing up for a while now and except for the tranny (AOD), its the only thing i havent checked/replaced yet.

Should the spring be open like this with the lever down? Its like this with the lever up also.

Which way should the spring be and when? I have this feeling i need to reset it.

Thanks.

yah pretty much. inspect it closely first, the end of the spring should fold under somewhere, to latch on.
chances are its broken there. if thats the case, dont bother taking it all apart, just replace the whole unit.

The tab on the end of the spring appears good and is resting against that bracket in the pic. Nothing looks or feels broken. I looked it up in Chiltons and Haynes. I need to pull the cable back about 2" while a pin is stuck thru a hole by the handle. Well i found the hole but i dont see what the pin is supposed to do, it just rests against another piece. Or does it line up with a hole i cant see after the cable is pulled?

I never started from scratch before. Will i need help, one inside and one under the car? Wont have help until Tues.

Yet another bump. Id like to do this myself and theres nobody around that knows much about cars except how to fill them with gas. Called a dealer but they want to look at the carfirst. Yea right, and charge me for it im sure. No thanks.

Anybody here reset an ebrake before? Manuals mention a steel pin but i dont see what its supposed to hold when i look at my ebrake. The hole doesnt go anywhere. Whats it line up with? I just want to to do this right.
