Default Removing console...

ok, so i'm trying to get to my parking brake, and i need to remove that top console piece that goes from right under the armrest to the rear of the shifter. its where the E brake sticks out from and it holds the cig lighter and ashtry. i took out the2 screws that are under the shifter bezel, but there are some more holding the piece in. i think they may be under the piece that holds the armrest, but i'm not positive. any ideas???

thanks,
jeff

but how do you get the console over the shifter, thats what always gives me trouble, i have a mgw shifter so it helps to take the handle off but its still pretty tough, and looking at that diagram it looks like it would be harder with the auto

Which part over the shifter? The bezel for mine (AOD) just pops off. There are 4 clips that snap into the main lower of the console. Just stick a flat screwdriver under it and pop it off. Its actually quite easy.

Or do you mean how the main lower comes off? Remove the panel under the steering wheel for a screw. Theres another screw by the glove box. Might have to pry off the trim plate around the heater controls., dont remember.

Mine is a 79, and I just did some interior work.

-2 screws under the ashtray
-4 screws in the compartment/center console
-pop the piece off that is under the E-brake when released
-under that there should be 2 more screws
and reach behind the console under the radio area and unplug all the electronics(cig lighter, indicaters, and etc.)
-and then it should come right out

This was for my 79 Stang, yours "could" be a lil different.
