I have a 89 lx muststang with the 5.0 v8, with mac headers, 3' flowmaster catback, No cats, rebuilt 302 bored over .30 ford e303 camshaft, and 373 gears with posi... Pretty basic,

Well tonight as i was gettin on the freeway, i was gettin on it threw all the gears, and the car had more power than i had ever felt come outta the motor while driving.. I was like Wow WTF.. this is Crazy, Well as i was driving the check engine light was going off and on, and while the light was on, my car was pulled hard threw 3rd and 4th gear like it has never done,

Did i free up some HP or what ? Maybe running in a Limp mode with the CEL ? I am kinda confused why the burst of power, and the check engine light.. It was a Pretty noticable difforence while i was driving, Just wish my 5.0 was that quick all the time, but then maybe 10 mins later the car didnt have a CEL anymore, ....


What could this be ?

Not a clue. The only way to know is to pull the codes. Usually when i see a CEL near the top end, it's because someome has some decent power and they are pegging the MAF due to the increased airflow. But I don't think you have enough to really peg it. Either way, just pull the codes.

Every so often ill feel a power increase but its usually during a cool day. Few years ago i pulled a light so hard i got lightheaded. Hasnt done it again since and i dont mind one bit.

Pulling codes is a good idea. May be nothing but never hurts.

I dont think the motor is on its last leg, Its brand new... maybe 500 miles on Rebuilt...

Maybe to much AiR-flow for the stock meter ?
