Running hot time to upgrade radiator

RE: Running hot time to upgrade radiator
What are the actual temps and do they fluctuate?
When the temps fluctuate can tell you a little about what is going on...
Make sure the system has been purged of air...
Perform a cooling system pressure test to verify there are no leaks in the cooling system...

how do I check to see if I have air in the system? and if so how do I get it out. That might be the probelm since I had to take off the timing cover last week to get to the oil lifter galley plugs that I forgot to plug up LOL. Last time it almost came to overheating i thought the water was boiling in the block. it was making sounds. but my electric fan wasnt on when I thought it was I think the controller is going bad. I am going to run it tomorrow on my way to the dyno and see if it overheats or not.

You might need to send it to a shop and have it rodded. Lots of times in older radiators scale will build up in the tubes and block the coolant from free flowing and also check to see that the temp probe is functioning correctlyso that the fan isset to come on at the same time the thermostat opens. I don;t know if your fan is a pusher or a puller but make sure it is mounted on the correct side of radiator. Just some things to look at before you spend a bunch of $$

lol... that's a good point mattdel!
jack the front of the car up, take off the rad cap, turn on the car, let it run until the t stat opens, squeeze the upper rad hose (pump it) and all the air should rise to the cap and escape, then top it off, then cap it, turn off, let it cool and start it up and check it again.

awesome im gonna try that and make sure there is no air in my system. I hope thats all it is. The radiator looks fairly new there is no nasty buildup anywhere that I can see and it flushes out quite rapidly. the idle on it sucks though, up and down and up and down and OFF. ive tried everything even setting the tps voltage and it still does it. i cant figure out why. i guess that is part of the tuning procedure when I take it to the dyno shop. maybe he can tell me why it keeps doing that.

hahaha YEAH thats what I did yesterday.... NO GO... it didnt work. remember that I have a stroker 347 with bigger injectors as well.it surges up and down and off. ive followed all 5 steps and nothing it will stay idling until i take it out for a spin and pull up to the stopsign at the end of my block.
