How to change rear differntial fluid in 95 GT?

How to change rear differntial fluid in 95 GT?
My rear end is making a nasty noise and i'm thinking that the rear differential fluid just needs to be changed. Any suggestions on how to do so(special tools, special instructions)? Should I go with a synthetic or not?
