Default O2 sensor location

I have a 94 GT 5.0 that I recently bought. The Check engine light came of and the code says bad O2 sensor. I got under the car and found that the previous owner had removed the CATS. I would like to put the converters back on, so my question is do the sensors go before or after the CATS? Hopefully putting them on and replacing the sensors will help both throttle response and gas milage. The car runs very rich.

The sensors go before the cats. But as stated above, adding cats isn't going to solve your problem. Just swap out the O2 sensors for new ones. Unless the previous owner removed them and wended over the bungs. But that seems unlikely.
