Default cooling problem

When I first got the car the person said there might be something wrong with the radiator.Well I dont know if its the radiator but its weird and im thinking maybe just a new thermostat? For the first 10 or so minutes the car is warming up it well get well above halfway just about 1 line away from red,and then it will start cooling down. And sometimes it doesent even do this at all.But usually it will get up there before cooling down, and then sometimes it will keep going back up and coming back down. But other times it will just stay in the middle???Its confussing me and thought you guys would help me out.Thanks.

easy, you should have no prob at all. follow your upper rad hose to your engine, take the hose off and its located right there.

+1 on the 180 thermostat. make sure your fluid is topped off as well. and if it still does it I would check the ater temp sensor or the gauge itself. how hot does the engine compartment get if you open the hood, is it unbearable? make sure the heat comming from the engine compartment is roughly showing the same as what you see on the gauge.there is a big difference between 170 and 210

make sure there is no air in your cooling system. run the car until it gets warm enough for the wate to start circulating thru the engine while the cap to the radiator is off. if it has air it will start bubbling if not then your problem is your t-stat or something else mentioned above.
