2kwik, bad info there - most marine cams are designed to make max power between 3000-5000 rpm's. i "high lift high duration" cam would raise the max power range well above 5000 rpm. think of something equiv. to a B-303 or smaller, usually flat tappet.
also heavy duty is relative. it will have things like brass freeze plugs, but the block/crank/rods/pistons/heads/valvetrain are all the same.
lastly, as stated before - SOME are reverse rotation, but single motor applications are normal rotation. I live in florida and spent 5 years in a machine shop..... im pretty sure i have delt with a few inboard boat motors
