Rear end gear installation
Well after going to a shop today to get a quote (1200$) I think Im going to have a hard time to find someone to do it for me and not ripping me off, so I was thinking about doing it myself, I know if youve never done it before you shouldnt, but you have to start somewhere, so should I?

Not that you should do it but i had to replace the pinion bearing on a f100, instead of taking it somewhere to get the bearing pressed on i put the pinion gear in the freezer then went to bed. The next morning i put the bearing in the oven at around 200 for twenty min and grabbed a piece of pipe slighly larger than the shaft. Put the gloves on, took out the pinion from freezer and the bearing from the oven and it went on most of the way just had to drive it home with the pipe and hammer. Anyways i just thought i would mention it. Getting the old bearing centerpiece of the shaft was a b$$ch, used a torch, chissel, and hammer

I hate *** holes like that ..dream up a crazy price to take advanate of people because they don't want to mess with it...make sure to tell ALL your friends to avoid that place....maybe they'll get the message... you can get a cobra rear with disc brakes cheaper than that.....be patient....

Yeah, I think for a laugh I asked the local Ford dealership what a swap out would cost for my then '96 Cobra. They quoted me something close to the 1200. So, for a $200 part, it costs a $1000 to install I asked?
I then found other places that would do it for a price closer to 500-600.
Good luck if you try it yourself, although not one of the easier installs to start with.
