Default Pulling a vacuum on the A/C ?

I replaced my evaporator core and tonight I've hooked up a vacuum pump. I was told it should pull down to around 21 but it is right at 28-29. Is this normal? I'm also leaving the pump on it tonight, is this overkill?

Pull it down to 29-30 lbs. Let the pump hold it for ~45 minutes then close it and make sure it holds vacuum (no less than 21 lbs) for about an hour.

Enjoy...

really? because i just put the air stuff back on car (it was missing when i bought the car) and charged it up. i guess i should take it to an air conditioner place and have them do the vacuum thing. is it something i can do at home? it blows but not as cold as i think it should.

r134 is what i put in it. i had to buy the adapter kit for the fittings. i hope it isnt going to be expensive to have it vacuumed. do i just tell them what i did or do i say 'hey make it blow cold' and they'll know what to do?

If you do not have the right stuff, it ain't going to cool right! Since you just put all the stuff back on it, you are going to benifit alot by having it done correctly!! Money well spent.

Thanks Dale! Thats exactly what I was told but I forgot it by the time I got home with the pump. I was expecting it to pull to 21 lbs and steady out. Just surprised me.

Just tell them what you've done and they will put the gauges on it and see what it is doing. Put a thermometer in the vents and see how cold it gets. I think it should pull it down to 33-35 degrees

tell them to recharge the A/C system depending on how good they are, they'll know what to do, did you use oil also?
