MEM 302 5.0L

I just advanced my timing today....
It was set at 6 or 7. and i turned it up to 13.....
I got on it a few times to test it, and i didnt hear anything odd....
is engine ping hard to hear? or is it pretty obvious?

uh seems like its revving up faster in neutral, ...mainly just throttle response....but before my car seemed a little "lugged down"..... as for power gains i cant tell for sure, i havent drivin it enough to tell.

I believe 10° is stock, so you were running more retarded than stock to start.

I didnt do it....haha either my dad did it by accident when he put the engine in the car or the person who had the engine before it was in my car did it.

I wish there were a video clip of an engine pinging. I tried to look but couldn't find one on the web (shocking actually.) Because it's such an important thing and because so few people seem to know exactly what it sounds like, it would be nice to have a sticky of it in the tech sticky.

Edited to add: It kind if hard to describe it. I always describe it as an empty paint can being shaken real fast. But someone would hear something else (like loose rockers or something) and they would mistake it for pinging.
