Default timing question

I was going to advance my timing today but when I went to check the timing, it said it was at 22degrees! I'm guessing my balancer was removed at one point. But anyways, how do I reset it to factory 10 degrees?

Did you remove the spout connector? If so i must have slipped. Not sure how to get it back to 10 deg w/o a good balancer.

If the balancer has spun on the rubber ....you'll need a new one.. however if you checked initial base timing without removing the spout connector??? then remove the spout connector and loosen distributor bolt and rotate distributor until it reads 10 degrees. I usually take a white paint marker and mark 0 and 10 degrees on the balancer to make adjustment easy and visible

+1 to what they're saying. If I had to guess, I'd say that you checked the timing with the spout connecter still in. It's a very common mistake. hell, even I did it the first time I messed with timing.

The spout connector was out. But isn't 22 degrees a bit extreme? I'm guessing it's wrong.

22 is higher than normal for most people that I know....you would think that it would be pinging if it was too high...
