Default RE: building a new 5.0

The 83-85 5.0 have a 8.4 cr with the 83-84 having cast pistons...the 85 has forged..the 86 has flat top which are a 9.2 cr...the 87-91 have 9.0 cr with forged pistons that have a .030 dish and eyebrows..the head cc on them are about 64.. The only change in bottom-end on the 83-93 are the pistons.. i would go for about an 8.4 or so compression with the turbo and at least forged rods.. you should also consider getting the crank polished..

dont 89-92's have low compression with forged pistons? but i want the engine to be farely strong so i would need new pistons? cheaper the better but if it will save t from blowing up ill definetly buy it.

i would go with a nodular crank good for 500hp and some 5150 I-beam rods with the same rating and a good set of -26cc inverted dome(for high boost) fordge alm. pistons, there is better stuff out there but you dont need a fully forged bottm end to run 12lbs on a 302 just stuf a little better than stock but dont save on the pistons get good forged alm ones.

Nodular crank good for 500hp around 400 clams
5140 I-beam rods good for 500hp also around 400 clams
forged alm. pistons around 600 clams

well 12lbs on a a stock 302 will get you around 400hp, so you dont need to plan out an 20,000 dollar motor to run 12lbs i would think you could build a 500hp 12lbs short block under 2500 if you assembled it your self and had a block, Machine work will run around 900 fully prepped and balanced, and like i said above crank 400 rods 400 and pistons 600, remember to get 500hp on 12 lbs alls you need NAed is around 270-280hp that pretty easy.

i would not run a stock 5.0 bottom end with turbo boost into the 12's.
