Default mexican block

I know its kind of an old topic, and they say theyre stronger.... but are they really stronger? Would one be worth buying for a ~500hp street build?

some say it has a higher nickel content some say no it depends on who you talk to... either way it's not a bad block but still 500 hp is pushing any factory production block to the limit. the mex 302 had larger/289 hipo main caps also. but if you want your assembly to last at least get a sportsman block or even better dart block or a boss 302....I know they are costly but what's more costly when your whole rotating assembly explodes or spend a little more now or a lot more later

The FRPP sportsman is a stock block. I think ford even rated them at 425hp.

I wouldn't hesitate to push one past 500hp. I recently came across one that I was going to use for my fox and had plans to make more than 500hp with it but I decided to take the main caps off of it for my '65 K code project.

Right, well ive read some stories of guys pushing 500+RWHP out of the mex. blocks and them lasting. How much do people usually let them go for?

[sm=signs007.gif].....built right they will last.....this is not a street car, but this Mexican 306 uses the OEM crankshaft and turns @9200+ RPMS.....not bad for a 9 second car.....for 2 yrs. now.

They are stronger. I wouldn't pay the premium for one for only a 500hp build though.

I would concur with Full Auto.
As a core 302 blocks are maybe $40 items, I won't pay any more for a 'Mexican' block that has the same metal in it anyway, acording to Ford...........
