Default RE: Exhaust Recommendations

ORIGINAL: Lizardking50

Funny how guys are raving about eq length headers, but reccomend flowmasters, which are pure junk when it comes to making power. uneq length headers on larger displacement V8's give almost identical power numbers to eq length headers according to dyno numbers I have seen in books written by accreditted engine builders. Exhaust systems like flowmasters, on the other hand, greatly reduce flow, and are barely better then stock. This is because of the design of the muffler. A performance muffler should be a straight through design with fiberglass baffling. If you can get a cfm rating on the muffler, the recommendation is 2 cfm/1 hp you are planning on making.
But, if you're like most people (including me atm) you're probably not going over 300 hp, so uneq length headers, a high flow cat, and a cheap set of flows will be easiest to deal with, and there will be no noticeable power difference.
Am not sure where you read this, but it is a false statement. There has been many different articles in MM&FF, 5.0, and Mustangs Weekly about bolting on an American Thunder system (2 40 Series Flowmasters) to the stock exhaust on a budget build-up and producing up to 16HP with just new end pipes and flows. Barely better than stock? hmmmmmm.. [sm=bs.gif]

I have a sound clip of my exaust that sounds real awesome, but its best that you do not live in an emmisions tested area. I have Shorty headers soon to be long tubes straight into Ravin Mufflers, not too many people have heard about Ravins because they usually run about 170 bucks a piece(CAD) and then out the back with 2-3/4 pipes all the way I can post it or send it if someone tells me how to post a vid. Its pretty FoGGin cool soundin
