94gt computer issues
My friend has a 94 GT and it is having all sorts of computer problems. He was wondering how hard is it to find a new computer for his car and also will any from other fords work?
Well the only mod is an O/R hpipe its and auto. The car is running extremely rich and if you put you foot into the throttle it bogs down really bad. sometimes it is hard to start. Idle is rough and choppy motor shakes alot at idle. The reason he thought it was the computer is one night all his lights started acting up and flashing and said it happened when the all ths started. I think it may be a vacuum leak i looked over all the ones in plain site yesterdayand they are fine, he also cleaned the MAF and i helped a bit but not much.
If all his lights are acting up, it could be an electrical problem as opposed to a computer problem. Check out the electrical system for bad grounds, frayed wires, short circuts, etc. Also, try to pull teh codes to see what the computer thinks is wrong. You can check the engine codes for free and it will let you know what could be wrong (including lthe computer itself.)
You can check some other things to help with the rich / lean problem. How are the O2 sensors? If they aren't working properly, it can cause you to run rich. How does it run with the MAF unplugged? The sensor wires could have been damaged somehow, causing bad readings. if it runs better with the MAF unplugged, then you know where you problem is. Or at least it's a strong possibility.
How about the fuel pressure regulator? Could be a ruptured diaphram. Check the fuel pressure with a gauge. Also disconnect the vacuum line from the regulator and see if any fuel comes out. Does it look or smell like fuel in the vacuum line?
