strange noise?
My 88GT makes a squealing noise coming from the drivers side front tire area with every revolution of the wheel I changed the rotors pad and wheel bearings hoping to solve the problem but its still there just a little bit quieter. Its the liudest when its really cold outside. What could this be I am at a loss. [&o]

RE: strange noise?
it could be something simple,
since you changed everything down there, you should look into the rim scraping up against something, maybe it had been slightly bent if you hit a curb or something.
it sounds like metal on metal, heres what you do: jack up the front end of the car and with your hand turn the wheel of the car while listening for the noise. pinpoint where its coming from, im sure youll find out what it is.

Check and make sure the backing plate isn't rubbing on the rotor. Some times if you hit something as simple as a twig in teh road or something like that it will bend the backing plate making it rub on the rotor.

RE: strange noise?
did you use new bearing races in the rotore when you changed the bearings?? did you hand pack the new bearings with a good wheel bearing grease?? did you preload them correctly and then back off the nut just a touch before putting the cotter key in it???

RE: strange noise?
were the races a snug fit in the hubs?? I once replaced an outer frontwheel bearing and the race just fell into the hub and I was not smart enough to realize this was not correct and the bearing spun the race and welded itself to the spindle after only a few miles of driving.

RE: strange noise?
it could be the brake pads slightly dragging on the rotor. disk brakes tend to do this sometimes especially if the caliper piston seals have lost some of their elasticity over the years. the pads ride real close to the rotors anyway but they shouldn't be touching the rotors with the brakes off so you might want to check this out too.
