Default Tach install question?

I recently purchased a 5in autometer tachometer w/ shift light. I understand the wiring diagram up to the part where it says hook the white wire up to lighting source, and the red wire to the ignition switch, where are these located? i am sure this is a newbie question but I have never installed a tach before and I wan to do it right. Any help would be appreciated

If you really want to get fancy, you can splice the lighting wire into your dimmer switxh for the dash and you tach light will dim with your dashlights. I just wired mine into the fuse for the headlights.

Bring both red and white to your light terminal, Use a meter and find the one that is hot when you turn on the ignition, that is where the red wire will go. Next check to see which one is hot when you turn on the headlights, that is were the white wire should go.
