I believe thats the one that plugs into the MAP sensor on the SD cars. I believe it should be unplugged on a MAF car.

This car has received the MAF conversion.

What's the protocol for leaving it unplugged safely?

If you have an open vacuum line that's drawing in unmetered air, then you have a problem. You actualyl want the hose to be covered. Are you sure that uncovering it solved your problems? Plug it back up and see if the car fires up. I can't imagine that was the problem... unless for some reason you were running too rich and it needed the extra air via the leak to lean it out some. Seems unlikely though

Some people just shove a bolt in it. Other's get a rubber cap and cap it off.

It shouldn't be sucking in any air at all. It's there because on the SD cars, it's supposed to be plugged into the MAP sensor. The '89's had EVERYTHING there to run speed density, but at the last minute got the MAF stuff. I don't believe that hose is suppose to be plugged into anything, unless it came from under the intake. But I doubt it. If you had a vacuum leak, you'd know it.

Okay, more info...

1) it is coming from under the intake.

2) it is sucking air, lots in my opinion.

Suggestions?

I intend to start the car, ensure an idle and then block the hose to see if the car dies out. I also intend to have a thorough look of the air intake from air cleaner up to throttle plates.

Thanks.

Plug it up!! It does not need to be attached to anything. Plug it or cap it!

Any idea where it was (or is) supposed to go? If it's supposed to be dead then why is it sucking air?

It was supposed to go to that box box attached to the firewall. That boxwas used as a MAP(Manifold Air Pressure) sensor.Being that it has been converted to MAF, it is no longer needed. That box is now a BAP(Barometric Air Pressure) sensor. You should see a wiring harness into the bottom of the box as well as a inch long plastic tube. That tube should be open. Plug the hose and as is well.

This car is possessed....

Got home from work, left the car running, established good idle then put a bolt in the vacuum hose...

Idle dropped and immediately stabilized. No issues, no grumbling.

So I shut off the car and start it. Fires right up, establishes idle, no issues.

It's been sleeping for a couple of hours. I will try to start it later.

We shall see....

WTF????
