Default Avoiding Emissions

Hay all. Im selling my 2000 GT and am planning on buying a '94 or '95 to build up as a show car. Seeing as how this will be pre a OBDII car in Illinois, they would have to drive it on the rollers for the emissions test. I DONT WAN'T SOME PUNK DRIVING MY SHOW CAR! Two years ago my winter car ('93 Probe GT) was being tested and the kid ran it into a cement post on the way out of the building causeing $1800 in damages. Is there ANY way that i can get around them having to drive the car. Given the amount of power it is going to have, the paint job, and all the other work that will be put into it, i would have a heart attack if somebody even sat in the drivers seat let alone actually driving it. There has to be SOMETHING that i can do. Thanks for the help guys and gals.

Regester it in a county without emmisions. I have done it ever since the made me take emmisions. Go to your dmv pay the and register the plates and friend or family in another county. Of course ask them first

I think IL has a exemption for cars just like that. A friend lives just outside Chicago, and has a 93 Tbird show car that is exempt. Seems there is some kind of milage limit, like 2,000 per year.

Interesting idea but wouldn't you also need to change your mailing address to that county?
I'm going to be in the same boat soon but the entire state of Pa. has some form of smog testing though. I would need to change my address to another state that dosn't have emissions....if that's even legal.
Pa. does have a process you can go through to get your car exempt from emissions but there are lot of hoops to jump through to get it done.
The mileage limit for that is 5000/year

NO IT IS TOO SIMPLE

Just put your resident addy as the out of county address and the mailing address as your current home. It will be just fine

buy a beater of the same year that can pass smog and just use the license plate of the street legal stang on the show car. sure the VINs wont match but if you get pulled over the cop wont check the vin, just the plate and registration.

i did this with my 77 f250. when i bought it the guy said it would pass smog so i took it in and the testing place said it pump out enough pollution for 10 polluting trucks. so i bought a '70 f250 and switched the vins and plates. instant smog exemption

You guys make this crap to hard.

I register my car in a county where there are no emmisions. My plate renewal crap goes there. My other cars that I have emmisions done on are registed at my house. I dont see what the big deal is. Find someone outta county and register it. No law in Illinios that says I can register my plates somewhere else
