Broken rocker nut
A few nights ago i was messing around in my car doing donuts and burnouts at some abandoned wherehouses. I was really getting on it, you know, having some fun. When i was driving home i heard a knocking noise that got faster with rpms. I took off the valve covers because it sounded like somthing in the valve train and found one of thenuts that holds the rocker in place had snapped so it was loose in there. How could this have happened? Thenut snapped in the middle, it seemsstrange becauseI wouldnt think there would bemuch pressure put on the middle of the nut. I checked the pushrod on that valve and it is very very slightly bent. I rolled it on the table and its not visible but i can hear its not 100% straight. Can this happen from running at high rpms? Im not sure on what to do next, replace thatnut and keep running or search for another cause of the problem.

RE: Broken rocker nut
you have poly-loc nuts? did it break where the allen screw would meet the top of the stud? thats the only way i could see that happening but even that is pretty weird. FYI if your rolling the pushrod on the table and you cant see light under it, its not bent.

RE: Broken rocker nut
well the nut isnt very thick, so i suppose if whoever tighened down the allen screw cranked the crap outta it and there was a weak spot in the metal it could happen. i dont think its common.
was it an ARP nut?
was it an ARP nut?

RE: Broken rocker nut
its a brand. i dont remember if they stamp their poly locks or not. im just wondering if whatever hardware was installed on your heads was generic crap (that happens alot with certain aftermarket head companies)

well like i said i dont recall if ARP stamps theirs or not, and Comp stuff will be made by ARP anyways lol. most anything name brand in the way of nuts and bolts is made by ARP. they are THE company basically

Alright the pack of nuts came in the mail today. Now how do i got about installing the nut? I have edelbrock heads and from what ive read i juse tighten until i cant turn the pushrod then another 1/2 turn or so? I dont know much about reassembling engines, do i need to crank the engine to any specs or anything? Or can i just simply put the bolt back in there.
