Default What is this?

Okay, new to Mustang question, save me the following the lines to figure it out. Look at the 2 pictures and tell me what the items are and what they do. They are both found in the passenger side of the engine bay on an 88GT.
Also, 3 rd picture is steering after installing tubular K member, I will need a spacer or longer shaft, ideas?

what did you notch? I slid the k member all the way back and the steering linkage is not long enough to reach the new location of the rack.

What does the canister do, can I get rid of it? Do you know what the relay is for?

If you tossed your smog pump you can ditch that "canister"

Where does the vacuum line that goes through the firewall go to? What is the little solenoid for?

At the fire wall, the connection has the shaft go inside the part that comes through the fire wall it is attached by one bolt, it took it loose hoping there were multiple holes for adjustment but there was only one hole, no adjustment. I am use to GM where the shaft is splined and has some adjustment for length.
