Technically the fastest stock 5.0s are the 94-95 SVO GT-40s, but since they're fairly rare, good luck on finding one. Essentially they're a GT that's been modified with Cobra parts. SVO, in competition with SVT took the SVT based intake used on the Cobra, striped off the Cobra plate and ingraved SVO into the manifold, but the big changes came elsewhere. SVO used the "new at the time" aluminum GT-40 heads, bumped up to a B-303 cam, and added in a 3.23 or 3.55 rear gear option. These GT-40 Mustangs were rated at 290 bhp and were capable of running 13s all day.

Like I said, they're fairly rare and I only recently learned about them in one of my books about the history of the Mustang. Since (I think) the body looks like a normal GT the only way to tell if it's a true GT-40 is to look at the upper intake manifold and heads. If the heads are aluminum and the upper intake manifold looks like a Cobra intake manfiold with the Cobra plate removed, then it's highly likely it's a GT-40.
could you post some info on this, please.

OK as I said I just learnedof this in a book of mine. The Book is"Ford Mustang Fourty Years of Fun" by The Auto Editors of Consumer Guide, Louis Weber, Ceo. Here is the quote from the paragraph thatcontains all the info.

"But Ford had another way to ow-frills high-performance. Remember SVO, Special Vehicle Operations? Well, by 1995 it was the Speical Vehicle Organization with a new emphasis on developing over-the-counter speed parts. Various kits allowed Mustangers to go as they paid. "If we had to choose just one," Motor Rend advised, "it would be the 3.55:1-ratio rear-end gearset. The stock GT comes with 2.73:1 gears for optimum fuel economy. The CObra SVT uses a more performance-themed 3.08:1 set. But if you're willing to pay a fuel-economy penalty and $257....the 3.55:1 gears get the most out of the torquey 5.0-liter V-8 engine." SVO also offered this in a $2995 "GT40" engine kit that upped horsepower to 290-50 more than a stock Cobra, 75 more than a stock GT> Featured were big-valve "GT40" aluminum heads (vs. smaller-valve cast-iron units), a new intake manifold with tubular runners, a larger throttle body tubular exhaust headers, and low-drag accessory drive. So equipped, Car and Driver's GT 40 coupe ran 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in14.2 at 100 mph. "That puts this garage-builtTrojan horse in the speed ballpark wit hthe Z28," said C/D, which noted that "you can pay any Ford dealer the 10-hour flat-rate charge (about $500) to do the installation honors." Still no enough? SVO also listed a factory-approved Powerdyne supercharger with a choice of 6 and 9-psi puff, starting at $2600.

Oh, incase you still don't believe me, I actually have an SVO intake made in 94 awaiting P/P and install. Looks just like a Cobra, as I stated, just has the Cobra plate removed and Ford Motorsports SVO ingraved in the intake.

It was not a factory car. It was a dealer add on.

Since people are throwing all kinds of things out there, I'm going with the 1993 Cobra R.

sonds like you get a hold of the factory freaks..
my 87 is like that. 87 GT, No premium sound, no power windows or locks, No factory AC. 2:73 rear end. car pulls very strong especially for a bone stock 5.0 (the only mod is a flowmaster cat back). made my buddies 91 auto car feel downright slow and it a a couple mods.

Jthorn9... I hate to rain on your parade... but thats not a "stock car"

Ford did not produce a 95GT SVO... they produced a 95GT.. then the new owner had the dealerships ADD ON the AFTERMARKET parts.. which means all they were doing was buying a pre-modified car...
