Default New 5.0 that is falling on its face...help! *update*

I just bought a 95 GT and I was really excited because the body on this car is mint. Just what I wanted because my V6 is rusting on the underside...damn buffalo. Anyways this car has a K&N airfilter, shorty headers, underdrive pullies, x pipe, and then flowmasters and it is a 5 speed. this car is falling on its face, my V6 is faster...no lie. I don't know where to start...timing? compression? I have not touch the car yet because I just got it two days ago...I will tear into it this weekend, starting with changing the fluids and prolly plugs and wires. Maybe distributor? I car seems like it takes forever to rev. I punch it and it goes nowhere. I would not believe it has gears if the guy didn't have the receit for it. I have a buddy with a 95 auto GT with less mods, only gears, h pipe, pullies and CAI and he dusted my like i was in an escort. My V6 (on the bottle) is litterally door to door with him so this is depresssing to go out and get my first GT and it is a dog. I'm thinking that my intake is the problem because I got full exhaust with only a K&N on the intake. I know Im gonna put a CAI, throttle body and prolly and intake manifold on it because I think it is having a hard time sucking through all that stock intake. But I know you 5.0 guy out there are smart and I'm a V6 boy learning this motor so PLEASE HELP!

Does it have any noticable missing? Or does everything sound alright and it's just flat out slow?

I don't hear any missing or knocking, it is not stuttering or anything like that...smooth and slow....

idle up to like 2k or 2.5k feels strong then it just dies and takes forever to get to redline, my buddies 95 gt revs much faster with less mods...

start w/ all the free stuff.....reset the computer, set the tps, timing, clean iac, and check idle.......if you change the idle or tps at all.......reset the puter again and recheck it all till allthe numbers are good (.980v tps, 600 rpm idle w/ the iac unplugged, 12* timing etc)

then replace the pugs, wires and cap/rotor , making sure the plug wires are not crossing and causing a misfire, also check that the firing order is good.

if 1 cyl is off, it won't pop or anything....just run weak

if that is all good, repost........i can guarantee it's either spark or vac , prob 90% for sure

Runs like that and you bought it?[&:]
Check the things nitrous bob suggested, another thing you should do anyway is replace the fuel filter since nobody ever does that. Does it stutter when you hit the gas or is it just slow?

btdc????? whats that?No I did not know the car drove like this, the guy I bought it from didn't let me drive it hard, so I didn't know it was gonna do this...but I loved the condition to the body....cant undo rust...so i don't mind doing motor work

And as far as timing goes... as was already stated stock timing is 10* btdc. A general rule is that you pick up 2hp per degree increase in timing. However, you need to be using higher octane fuel as you increase. Search the site for timing, you'll find out all about how to set it and what not. Good free mod.
