Default Need help.

Lately my car has been turning off while driving. its been doing this for awhile now and still havent found the problem. i have a brand new IAC. after the car dies i can pop it in neutral and turn it right back on no problem. but the other day after not driving it for 2 weeks it did it again and didnt turn on. what can cause this? what should i check. its a speed density car. and also with this new IAC everytime i turn the car on the rpms jump to about 1500 then gradually settle back down. is this normal?

well when the car dies you need to check for spark and or fuel pressure but two essential tools you'll need are a spark checker and a fuel pressure gauge.....while driving you can run the gauge out to the windshield and watch to see if the pressure drops causing the car to shut off...if not.. I 'd suspect an ignition related intermitent faliure.....the TFI modules on those cars are prone to faliure that'll cause the car to die intermitently... as far as the idle goes.. check all your linkage for binding and the throttle body for carbon build up and quite possibly it could be a cheap chinease IAC motor with slow response also check for vaccum leaks...but first thing I'd do is perform a idle relearn procedure which is listed in the stickys I believe... do a search

i have an MSD coil on the car right now and when i bought it i accidently dropped it onto the fender maybe a 1ft drop. but when i installed it, it fired up right away no problems. i dont think i have the stock coil anymore or that would have been one of the first things i would have checked.

pop your TFI module out and bring it to a Advance Autoparts. They have a tester there that can check the module itself. Usually the biggest downfall of the TFI module is heat.

next time your car wont start after stalling... Check for spark. If you have none... time for a new TFI
