I don't have a EGR anymore, so yes, you can block off you spacer and remove your EGR completly. You will just need a simulator or have it shut off with a tune(I made my own)

I also removed my EGR spacer and made a custom spacer to hold my throttle cable.

Yes, that is an EGR valve and sensor.

So you say you need a simulator or to shut it off with a tune? Same for S/D and MAF cars? Can't just throw a cutout over top of where the sensor was?

Nope....if you leave it there and plug the vacuum line (valve will not open), the system will see a code 33 failure, it will turn the EGR function off automatically, but it will not turn on the CEL (Check Engine Light) indicator in the panel.. Anytime an EGR failure code is registered, the system will turn the EGR function off......the CEL will turn on if codes 31 and 35 are logged, instead of 33. The "simulator" or tune, is to prevent the CEL indicator from turning on.

If you just take out the EGR valve and block it off, you will have a constant check engine light on. But there are ways to fix that on your own. Someone on here posted a diagram of something you can do on your own to make it go away. Here's what they posted. I haven't tried it myself though.

Very helpful, but seeing as my 88 doesn't have a working CEL, I should have no other worries?
