because in the defrost mode when selected and or the mix mode the a/c system works in conjunction with the heater to provide a dehumidified heat which in turn will help the windows not fog up as much expecially when it's raining outside.....but what you described is normal ...when you say it takes longer to start I assume you mean the cranking time is longer before it fires up???? you might want to check fuel pressure make sure the pressure isn't leaking down while sitting due to leaky injectors and or a check valve in the pump being bad

+1
As for the heat/defrost system this is normal operation

^^^dont pay much attention to him, he rarely has helpfull things to say. its mostly getting his post numbers higher and telling people how dumb they are.
does your car seem to be cranking slower like it would if the battery was dying??. those problems about starting are difficult to solve because it could be anything from clogged injectors (easy fix) to extreem blow by (not easy fix). maybe a fuel filter, injector cleaner (best would be to remove and clean by hand) and to clean your MAF. sorry, i wish i had an answer for you, but you may have to "waste" time trouble shooting.

you need to buy subframe connectors.

and original poster... yea defrost turns the a/c comp. on too.. like said above
and the taking longer to start thing... like crank slower or just crank longer? if its a slow crank then see whats staying on... leaving ur headlights on for a brief moment? radio? **** like that....long crank id check things like fuel presure and try... when its taking long to crank... crank on it for a few... then dont let it start... and pull and check ur plugs

i wont make it long because i dont like to argue about this stuff without giving some info to the OP. many of the post i have read with his reply arent saying a whole lot. matter of fact they have been condescending. what am i suppose to think, he only give usefull info late? i should have just known that. so i wont stfu for something i have not seen.
