Default TPS differances

I thought tps's were the same from '86-'93, I bought one, and it is differnet than the one I took off, it has a 1/4" hole thru it and I had to cut off some of the casing to get the right reading, I still have a high idle, and I've cleaned the IAC,cleaned the throttle body, and reset the base idle and checked for a vacuum leak.I see at a different place they lista different number partfor '86-'88 and '89-'93.
Is the mounting surface the onlydifferent on theTB for '86-'88

Actually, that's kinda weird
Is it a Ford part?
Or is that a Parts Store part?

There are more than one TPS units on the early EFI cars (86-89)
It is possible you've got the wrong one for your car
You need the original stock # to match them up

I thought (assumed) they all were interchangable physically though...maybe not..
I've not actually replaced all three types

Maybe the speed density cars had a slightly different one?

Some people drill the holes out some so they can have some adjustment with the tps. Some company's now sell the adjustable tps.

I was going to post a pic of the TPS and mount, but my camera died!
I got it used, and was told it worked and that all '87-'93 arethe same, if it pluged in, itwas the right one,I quess not! He said it was off a '90 or '91mustang.The hole was not drilled, it was molded in. It looked like a oem tps, but I'll have to look closer.
Thanks for the info.

so you took a part that looked different from the one that came off your car, and proceeded to hack it up to make it fit?
tps adjustment is a myth, the cpu takes over anywhere u put it.

I now have some pic's of the tps I had on my car,and the oneI got from someone. Today I put the one I had, back on to see if it ran any different then the replacement one, and they run the same, but I had a hell of a time getting it to stay at about 1. when I tighten it up, but I got it.
Any idea what the replacement one is for? They both look like Ford parts. One has blue on it, and the other has green on it.
Can you tell if the mount for the speedtps in the pic is different from mas tps mount, or different yrs.

Anything between .5 and 1.19 vdc (.7 - 1.0 vdc optimum) works...no need to waste time trying to adjust a "non-adjustable sensor".
