Harmonic Balancer Install In The AM
Waking up early tomorrow to put on a new harmonic balancer..let's hope everything goes well after it's installed.
I really have no idea what im doing, but once im infront of it i get a glimpse.
I have a 95, and in order to do this im pretty sure i have to take off the belt of course, take off the shroud fan and the shroud i think its called. Any tools needed for taking anything off? I was told i will need a tool to remove the balancer..but it's already completely off track. I have all the basic tools, wrenches, swivel ratchets etc etc. Any tips?

If you don't have the proper tool for installation of the dampner, try this.
Put it in boiling water for about 10 minutes, then carefully slide it on.
I like to use just a very little bit of anti-sieze on the snout of the crank also, makes it easy to get off.
BTW, you did get a new front seal didn't you? Otherwise the thing WILL leak.....

shouldnt need a tool to reinstall it unless the 94-95 5.0 are dif then 85-93, just put it on as far as u can mite have to smack it with a rubber mallet a bit to get it far enuff then just start the thread the bolt back in and ur fine, and ya get a new seal its ez g/l

front main seal, its less than 5.00 at the auto parts store and they will have it in stock. once your old balancer is removed, you need to pry the old seal off with a large flathead screwdriver, clean up where the seal was pressed in, and install the new seal. dont beat the thing like a redheaded stepchild - its a delicate operation to get the new seal back in with your crank sticking thru the middle getting in your damn way BUT all in all its not exactly a hard operation to do.

Ok, its definatly called a front main seal?
When im scraping the old seal off do i make sure that none of the seal gets inside the motor? Or is it impossible for this?
And how hard is taking off the shroud fan and shroud?
When putting the seal back on, it goes on first, then the balancerand the balancer will have to be forced into it? It wont damage the seal or anything? Any kind of sealent needed for keeping the seal in place? I always thought you needed some kind of glue for all seals. ( I'm learning)

i'm having trouble gettin the bolt off in the middle of the crankshaft pulley, it turns the crankshaft along with it either way i try turning it, which way is the way to loosen it anyway?

I had the same problem, I just used a big pipe wrench on the balancer to hold it while I loosened the bolt. It turns the same way as a normal bolt. Hope it helps
